In the last couple of weeks John Speight has begun work on his biggest project to date: a Swiss style papercut
(generally known as scherenschnitte) of the internal goings on in Kirkharle's Stone Barn. The picture will
be cut in one piece and is likely to be approximately six feet in length when finished. Currently the papercut
is in the planning stage.

For the fourth consecutive year the Kirkharle Courtyard Christmas guided walk will be taking place.
This year the date is Sunday 21st December.
One of the many treats on the walk last year was the Zwartbles Sheep. Elsa, a good friend who was
originally going to personally show the walkers her sheep. But she had prior engagement. So as not to ruin the treat for the walkers she had kindly left some feed halfway through the walk, so that I could get the sheep in to feed. Now you don’t get such treats on any guided walks, just on Shepherds Walks!
As it starts and finishes at Kirkharle Courtyard it will also give you an opportunity to pick up
those last minute presents and the opportunity to have a bit of lunch in the coffee shop once we return.

a range of car silhouettes. The first two are already completed and available for purchase,
these being a 1960s Austin Mini Cooper (see picture below) and a Volkswagen Beetle Ultima Edition.
Among many others John intends to include such classics as the Aston Martin DB5 (James Bond's),
the Volkswagen Camper Van, and early Rolls Royce and Jaguars. Some modern cars are also planned.

We were pleased to welcome over 50 Journal readers from all over the North East to Kirkharle in September. They enjoyed a talk from the owner of Kirkharle, John Anderson, on the creation of Kirkharle and this led onto the fact that Kirkharle was the birthplace of the famous landscape Architect -Capability Brown. There followed a film on the life and times of Capability Brown which was recently screened on Tyne Tees and was produced for Tyne Tees by Jan and Jane Ostrowski who own the farm shop here.
Ingrid Wagner Rug & Art Creation has arrived at No.5 The Stone Barn, presenting high quality,
superbly coloured textiles, plus paintings, for the contemporary interior. Featuring:

Watch out for a special programme "Capability Brown" on ITV Tyne Tees Television in
December. Made by Jan and Jane, who run
Kirkharle Farm Shop, but
also work in TV, the programme explores the personality of Kirkharle's most famous son
who rose from working in the Loraine family's garden to become Royal Gardener, and a
friend to dukes and earls. His hallmark landscapes with grassy slopes, serpentine lakes,
clumps of trees and surprise vistas, were all the rage in 17C English society. Find out
how a Northumberland farmer's lad became the toast of the land through a combination of
genius and practical skills.
A special DVD on Capability is also out soon.
Head Chef, John Calton of the Otterburn Tower will
be giving a cookery demonstration at 2.00 pm on 29 August as part of the Kirkharle Courtyard Summer
